Taal Lake Boat Tour from Manila: Worth It?

The Taal Lake boat tour is a half-day trip from Manila that takes you across the lake to the Taal Volcano island. Expect a 30-45 minute ride on a small outrigger boat, often windy and sometimes wet. Once there you can hike to the crater rim (about 45 minutes up a dusty trail) for views of the inner lake and steam vents, or just walk around the shoreline. The whole experience from Manila usually takes 6-8 hours including travel. It's genuinely impressive on a clear day; the volcano rising straight out of the lake is striking. On hazy or rainy days it loses a lot of its impact.

Best time is December to April during the dry season, especially early morning before the afternoon clouds roll in.
