Fishing Tours in Nadi: What to Know

Most Nadi fishing tours are half-day or full-day deep-sea trips targeting mahi-mahi, tuna, wahoo, and occasional marlin. You’ll head out in a 30–40 ft boat with a captain and mate who handle tackle and filleting. Expect 4–6 hours bouncing around in open ocean; it can get rough once you leave the reef. The experience is straightforward: early start, basic snacks and water provided, and you keep what you catch if you want it cooked at your resort. It’s genuinely fun if you like fishing, but it’s not a relaxed sightseeing cruise.

Best time is May to October when seas are calmer and fish are more active. December–March brings bigger swells and more rain, so trips get cancelled or bounced around more often. Expect to pay around $650–$1,200 FJD for a half-day charter for up to 4 people; full days run $1,200–$2,000 FJD. Prices usually include gear, bait, and crew but not lunch or transfers.

Pick a smaller group charter if you actually want to fish rather than just cruise. Skip the cheapest operators that overbook and run on “Fiji time” – the extra wait in the rain isn’t worth the savings. Bring motion-sickness tablets, reef-safe sunscreen, and a light jacket; the wind can turn chilly even in the tropics.
