Should You Do a Food Tour in Lima?

A Lima food tour typically means 3–4 hours of walking and eating your way through Miraflores or Barranco with a small group. Expect to try 8–12 different bites: ceviche, anticuchos, causa, chifa, maybe some street snacks and a dessert. It’s a mix of seated tastings at casual spots and standing around market stalls. The guide explains ingredients and history while you eat, but the real value is eating things you’d probably skip or order wrong on your own. It’s filling—many people treat it as lunch and skip a full meal afterward.

Best time is the dry season from May to October when it’s sunny and less humid. Tours run year-round, but December–March often means gray skies and occasional drizzle. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person for a decent half-day tour; cheaper options exist but usually cut corners on quality or group size. Private tours start closer to $200–$250.

Pick one that includes a proper ceviche stop and a market visit. Skip the ones that lean too heavily on chocolate workshops or “fusion” restaurants unless that’s specifically what you want. Wear comfortable shoes—you’ll do more walking than most descriptions admit. If you have dietary restrictions, mention them when booking; most guides can adapt but not always at the last minute.
