Should You Do the Oslo Forest Waffle Hike?

This is a guided 3.5-hour hike through peaceful woodland trails ending with freshly made Norwegian waffles cooked on an open fire. You get nice views over the Oslofjord from a scenic lookout, plus coffee or juice. The group size is kept small (usually 8-10 people), the pace is moderate, and the whole thing feels more like a relaxed local outing than a tourist production. Expect some uphill sections, bugs in summer, and a lot of standing around while the guide prepares the waffles. It's genuinely pleasant on a good weather day but can feel long if it's cold, wet, or you're not into slow-paced group activities.

Best time is late May to early September when the trails are dry and the forest is green. June and August usually give the most reliable weather. Expect to pay around $140–180 per person; it’s not cheap but includes the guide, transport from central Oslo, and the waffle tasting. Skip it if you’re on a tight budget or prefer exploring forests independently.

Honest tips: Go for the morning tours if available – the light is better and you’re less likely to be tired. Don’t skip the hike thinking you can just get the waffles; the forest setting and the fire-cooked waffles are the whole point. Bring decent walking shoes and a light jacket even in summer.
