You’ll find five tall, vivid Chagall windows in the choir of Fraumünster Church. Expect deep blues, reds, and greens that glow when the sun is out; the rest of the church is plain by comparison. The windows tell Old Testament stories in a dreamlike style that rewards a few quiet minutes of looking. The space gets crowded midday with tour groups, but the atmosphere stays calm and respectful. Most visitors spend 15–25 minutes inside before moving on.
Best time is spring or early autumn on a weekday morning when the light is good and lines are short. In summer the church stays open longer but can feel busy; winter offers softer light yet shorter days. Expect to pay around CHF 8–15 for entry depending on whether you add the audio guide or buy a combined ticket with another sight. It’s not expensive, but it adds up if you’re on a tight budget.
Tip: skip the crypt and side chapels – they’re forgettable. Focus on the Chagall windows and the smaller but excellent Augusto Giacometti window in the south transept. If the church is packed, walk around the outside first, then return in 30 minutes; the crowd usually thins.
