Expect a relaxed, low-key afternoon wandering through lush tropical gardens with a modest zoo section. You'll see flamingos (they do a marching show a few times a day), parrots, iguanas, some monkeys, and native Bahamian birds. The whole place is compact enough to cover in 90 minutes to two hours at a comfortable pace. It's more garden than world-class zoo, so don't expect big-cat enclosures or massive exhibits; it's pleasant, shaded, and easy to walk.
The best time is December through April when it's cooler and drier. Go early in the morning (right at opening) to avoid midday heat and crowds from cruise ships. Expect to pay around $30-45 per adult for entry; kids are cheaper. Add $10-20 each way for a taxi from central Nassau or Paradise Island since it's not within easy walking distance of most hotels.
Tip: Skip the overpriced souvenir shop and overpriced on-site food; bring water and snacks instead. Definitely catch the flamingo march if your timing lines up, but otherwise move at your own pace and enjoy the gardens more than the animal cages. It's worth it if you like plants and a gentle wildlife experience, but skip if you're short on time or mainly want beaches.
