Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek: Worth It?

The Glyptotek is a solid half-day museum in central Copenhagen packed with ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman statues plus a decent collection of 19th-century Danish and French paintings. Expect a calm, uncrowded atmosphere even in summer, beautiful winter garden with palm trees, and enough marble to make your neck hurt from looking up. It's genuinely one of the better art experiences in the city if you like classical sculpture or just want somewhere quiet and impressive that isn't another design museum.

Best time is spring or fall when crowds are lighter and you can linger. Summer is fine but gets busier after 11am; winter offers the cheapest tickets and near-empty rooms. Expect to pay around 120-220 DKK depending on whether there's a special exhibition and if you buy online in advance. Students and under-27s usually get decent discounts.

Tip: Start on the top floor with the Danish Golden Age paintings and the rooftop view, then work your way down to the Egyptian collection which is stronger than most people expect. Skip the basement temporary exhibitions unless the topic genuinely interests you—they're often mediocre compared to the permanent collection. Bring socks if you're wearing sandals; the marble floors get cold.
