Golfing in Montego Bay: What to Know

Expect rolling fairways lined with coconut palms, ocean views on several holes, and the constant trade-off between beautiful scenery and very firm, fast greens that punish loose shots. Most rounds take 4–4.5 hours. The heat and humidity can sneak up on you; even fit travelers sometimes wilt by hole 13. Mosquitoes appear at dusk, so late afternoon tee times mean bug spray and a faster finish. Courses are well-maintained but not Augusta-level; you’re here for the views and the Caribbean golf experience, not perfection.

Best time is December through March when temperatures are slightly lower and rainfall is lowest. Shoulder months of April and November still work well and cost less. Avoid July–October unless you love 90 °F heat, afternoon showers, and hurricane risk. Expect to pay around $180–$280 for 18 holes with cart; add $50–$80 for clubs if you’re not bringing your own. Caddies are optional but recommended at the better layouts.

Pick Cinnamon Hill or the ocean-front course if you want memorable scenery and decent conditioning. Skip the cheapest inland tracks unless you’re on a tight budget; they tend to be patchy and slow. Book your tee time at least a few days ahead, bring plenty of balls, and wear soft spikes. A sleeve of balls and two cold Red Stripes after the round is the local tradition for a reason.
