Montego Bay Sunset Catamaran: Worth It?

A sunset catamaran cruise in Montego Bay is exactly what it sounds like: you sail out on a stable catamaran as the sun drops, usually with an open bar, music, and views of the Jamaican coastline. Expect 90 minutes to 2.5 hours on the water. The good trips stay mellow with decent space to move around, while the party-oriented ones crank the music and fill the boat. You'll get decent rum punch or beer, some light snacks, and a chance to swim if the operator stops. The actual sunset is reliably beautiful; the experience depends entirely on how crowded the boat is and how much the crew seems to care.

Best time is December through April when the weather is driest and the seas are calmer. July–October can still work but expect more chance of afternoon showers and rougher rides. Expect to pay around $85–$140 per person. The cheaper shared trips are fine if you're okay with 30–50 people; the higher end usually means smaller groups, better service, and sometimes a private transfer.

Pick the smaller-group sunset sail if you want to actually relax and enjoy the view. Skip anything that advertises both a full party and romance in the same description; those tend to deliver neither particularly well. Bring a light jacket; it gets surprisingly cool once the sun is down.
