Should You Visit Humayun's Tomb?

Humayun's Tomb is worth a visit if you like Mughal architecture and want a calmer alternative to the crowds at the Taj Mahal or Red Fort. Expect a large, peaceful complex of red sandstone buildings, gardens, and the impressive main mausoleum with its double dome. It's the first garden-tomb in India and feels surprisingly spacious even when there are other visitors. The site takes 45-90 minutes to explore properly. It's well maintained but still has the slight chaos of Delhi around the edges—street vendors, security checks, and uneven paths. The experience is more reflective than overwhelming; come for the symmetry, views from the upper levels, and to see where the Taj design originated.

Best time is October to March when it's cooler and drier. Avoid midday in summer unless you enjoy serious heat. Expect to pay around $10-25 total per person including entry, modest transport from central Delhi, and a basic guide or audio guide. Private half-day tours that combine it with one or two other sites usually land in the $40-80 range depending on group size and vehicle.

One solid tip: pair it with nearby Isa Khan's Tomb inside the same ticket—it's quieter and gives good contrast. Skip trying to visit during major Indian holidays when it gets packed with local families. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and go early if you want decent photos without crowds.
