A full-day boat trip to the Rosario Islands usually means leaving Cartagena around 8-9am, speeding past Bocachica fort, then hitting a few small islands for swimming, snorkeling over patchy reefs, and lunch on one of the beaches. The water is clear and warm, the vibe is tropical, but it’s not a deserted paradise—expect other boats, music (sometimes loud), and vendors. The better tours stop at 4-5 spots including a decent snorkel site with fish, a sandbar for photos, and time to relax in beach chairs before the return trip around 4-5pm. It’s fun if you want a mix of boat ride, swimming, and basic lunch, but it’s a long day on the water and the reefs aren’t world-class.
Best time is December to March when seas are calmer and visibility is better; June-November can be choppier with more rain. Expect to pay around $80–$160 per person depending on group size, boat type, and whether it’s a shared party boat or smaller tour. Private charters start much higher if you want your own schedule.
Tip: Choose the smaller “VIP” or low-capacity boats over the big party catamarans if you want to actually relax—less noise, fewer people per stop. Skip the add-on “all-inclusive” open bar if you don’t drink much; it’s rarely worth the upsell. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and cash for extras.
