A Rosario Islands trip gets you out of Cartagena’s heat and crowds for a day of clear Caribbean water, snorkeling, and beach time. Expect a speedboat ride of about 45–90 minutes each way, a few stops at different cays, and a couple of hours at a beach where you can swim, eat fresh fish, and drink cold beer. The water is usually calm and turquoise, but the islands themselves are smaller and more developed than the photos suggest—lots of day-trippers, music, and vendors. It’s a solid nature break if you only have a few days in the city, but it’s not a remote paradise.
Best time is December to April when seas are calmer and rain is rare. June–November can be choppy with more afternoon storms. Expect to pay around $50–$110 per person for a full-day shared tour including transport, lunch, and basic snorkel gear. Private options or ones with fewer people run higher. Pick a smaller-group tour that includes snorkeling at the coral reefs and a stop at Playa Blanca; skip the ones that spend too much time at overcrowded party beaches or add unnecessary “aquarium” visits with captive dolphins.
