A full-day boat trip to the Rosario Islands usually runs 8-9 hours and includes a stop at Bocachica Fort, snorkeling or swimming in clear water, and time on a beach or at a resort on one of the islands where lunch is served. The sea can get choppy, especially on the way back, so expect some bouncing around. The water is beautiful when the sun is out, but visibility for snorkeling varies and the “private island” experience often means sharing a small beach with other tour groups. It’s a solid escape from Cartagena’s heat and crowds if you want a day on the water, but it’s not the pristine deserted paradise many people imagine.
Best time is December to March when the weather is driest and seas are calmer. June to November brings more rain and rougher water. Expect to pay around $80–$160 per person for a standard group tour with lunch and snorkel gear; private boats start much higher and only make sense if you’re splitting the cost with a group of four or more. Pick the smaller “5-stop” style tours if you want more swimming and snorkeling time; skip the loud party boats unless you actually want music and drinking the whole way.
