Most kayaking excursions from Punta Cana are actually full-day trips to Los Haitises National Park, about 1.5–2 hours away by bus or speedboat. You’ll usually start with a boat ride through mangrove channels, then paddle stable sit-on-top kayaks in calm, shallow waters while guides point out birds, caves, and tropical vegetation. Expect a mix of activities: the kayak portion is typically 45–90 minutes, combined with hiking, swimming stops, and lunch. It’s a solid nature outing if you want to get off the beach, but it’s not a relaxed paddle right from your resort. The group size is usually 8–20 people and the pace is gentle for all fitness levels.
Best time is December through April when seas are calmer and rain is less likely. June–November brings more chance of afternoon showers and rougher transfers. Expect to pay around $90–$130 per person for the full-day version including transport, guide, lunch, and gear. Shorter reef or lagoon kayaking options exist but are rarer and often less impressive.
Tip: Choose the smaller-group Los Haitises tour if you want real paddling time and decent wildlife spotting; skip the big 4-in-1 or 5-in-1 combos that rush you through everything and leave you exhausted with mostly bus time. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a dry bag for your phone, and a light rain jacket just in case.
