Expect a mix of calm bay paddling and decent wildlife spotting – herons, pelicans, maybe a few dolphins if you're lucky. Most tours last 2–4 hours and stay within protected waters around the city’s coastline or near the canal entrance. You won’t get true wilderness, but it’s a solid half-day activity that gets you off the streets and onto the water. The paddling itself is easy; guides handle navigation and point out sights. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a dry bag for your phone.
Best time is the dry season (December to April) when the water is flatter and rain is rare. June–November is cheaper but you’ll likely deal with afternoon showers and choppier conditions. Expect to pay around $45–85 per person for a standard half-day guided tour including kayak, paddle, life jacket, and bottled water. Private or longer trips push toward the higher end.
Pick a small-group tour (6 people max) if you want decent attention from the guide and better photos. Skip the super-cheap big-bus tours that combine kayaking with a dozen other activities – they feel rushed and the kayaking portion is often shortened. If you’re reasonably fit and have paddled before, you’ll enjoy it; total beginners sometimes find it tiring but still doable with patient guides.
