Paddleboarding in Panama City Beach

Paddleboarding here is mostly calm, beginner-friendly flat water with a few spots offering light Gulf chop if the wind picks up. Expect warm, shallow emerald water, decent wildlife watching (dolphins, rays, seabirds), and tours that usually combine a short lesson with a guided paddle to nearby Shell Island or along the shoreline. It's a relaxed, low-skill activity that feels more like a scenic float than a workout unless you deliberately choose a longer or more exposed route. Crowds are common in summer so don't expect solitude.

Best time is late spring (May-June) or early fall (September-October) when the water is warmest, winds are lighter, and the summer thunderstorm and winter chill risks drop. Summer is doable but hot and busy; winter can be too chilly for comfort without a wetsuit. Expect to pay around $35-65 for a basic 1.5-2 hour guided tour or rental; longer excursions or private sessions push $80-120 per person.

Pick a morning tour if you want glassy water and fewer boats. Skip the big-group sunset flotillas if you dislike crowds or loud music; they're more party than paddle. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and water; everything else (board, paddle, PFD) is provided.
