The Manoa Falls hike is a straightforward 1.8-mile round-trip trail with about 580 feet of elevation gain. Expect a mostly shaded, well-maintained path that gets muddy fast, especially near the end. The payoff is a 150-foot waterfall dropping into a small pool. It takes most people 60-90 minutes up and back. The trail can feel surprisingly lush and tropical, but it's also crowded on weekends. The final approach to the falls is rocky and slippery; many people turn around before the very best viewpoint if it's wet.
Best time to visit is spring or early summer when the waterfall has decent flow but the trail isn't a complete mud pit. Avoid it right after heavy rain—the rocks get treacherous and the path turns into a stream. Expect to pay around $8–20 total per person: parking or shuttle fees plus any small trail access or guided option if you don't want to drive yourself. Going independently is cheapest and easy from Waikiki.
Tip: wear proper hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers with good grip—flip-flops are a terrible idea. Skip the crowded midday tours; either go very early in the morning on a weekday or join a small group that leaves before 8am. Bring mosquito repellent and a waterproof bag for your phone.
