Montjuïc is the big hill just south of Barcelona's center that gives you sweeping views over the city and harbor. A typical half-day tour combines a cable car ride up the hill, a walk around the 18th-century Montjuïc Castle (with its military museum and decent views), and time in the surrounding parkland that includes the Olympic stadium area and some gardens. Expect a mix of history, decent photo ops, and a fair bit of walking on uneven ground. It's not the most exciting castle in Europe, but the elevated perspective and green space make a nice contrast to the crowded streets of the Gothic Quarter. The cable car ride is the highlight for most people – smooth, short, and genuinely impressive on a clear day.
Best time is spring (April–June) or fall (September–October) when it's warm but not brutally hot; summer can be sweaty and crowded, winter is fine if you're okay with wind and occasional rain. Expect to pay around €35–65 per person for a guided experience that includes the cable car and skip-the-line castle entry. Independent visitors can do it cheaper (around €15–25 for transport and ticket) but you'll miss the context. Skip the long group walking tours in July or August. One solid tip: pair it with the Magic Fountain show in the evening if your schedule allows – it's free, touristy in a fun way, and saves you from going up twice. Another: if you're short on time or energy, just do the cable car and castle and skip the full park circuit.
