Expect a loud, hot, and genuinely impressive 15-20 minute demonstration where a master blows, spins, and shapes molten glass at 1000°C+ using simple tools. You'll stand in a workshop with other visitors (groups of 10-30 are common), then get steered into the showroom for the hard sell. The whole visit usually lasts 45-90 minutes. It's touristy but the skill on display is real; this is still how most high-end Murano glass is made.
Best time is spring (April-June) or fall (September-October) when Venice isn't packed and the workshops are less frantic. Avoid July-August if possible; the furnaces feel twice as hot and the island gets crowded. Expect to pay around €25-€60 per person for a basic demo tour including vaporetto transfer from Venice. Private or longer experiences run €150-€300 for a couple.
Tip: Buy functional pieces like drinking glasses or small vases if you want something practical that still shows quality. Skip the giant chandeliers and over-the-top sculptures unless you have serious money and shipping plans. Another tip: after the demo, walk 10 minutes away from the main strip to smaller studios; the pressure to buy is lower and you can sometimes watch additional work without the sales pitch.
