A Nairobi National Park game drive is exactly what it sounds like: you're in a vehicle inside a proper Kenyan national park, watching zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, and the occasional lion or rhino, with Nairobi's skyscrapers visible on the horizon. It's not the epic wilderness of the Masai Mara, but it's surprisingly good for a half-day outing. Expect 3–5 hours total, including pick-up from your hotel. You'll likely see black rhinos (one of the better places in Kenya for them), lions, cheetahs, and plenty of plains game. The experience is genuine wildlife viewing, just with an urban backdrop that many people find surreal.
Best time is the dry season from July to October or January to February when animals concentrate near water sources and the grass is shorter. Avoid the long rains (April–May) if possible. Expect to pay around $90–$180 per person depending on group size, whether it's private or shared, and if transport from central Nairobi is included. Private vehicles are noticeably better.
Tip: choose a morning drive to beat the heat and have better animal activity; skip the full-day options unless you specifically want more time, as the park isn't huge. Bring binoculars and a good camera with zoom; the animals are often at a distance. If you're heading to proper safari parks later, this makes a solid warm-up or a last-chance rhino sighting.
