A night game drive in Nairobi National Park is exactly what it sounds like: you head out after dark in an open-sided vehicle with a powerful spotlight, looking for animals that are more active at night. Expect to see rhinos (often the highlight), hyenas, maybe a leopard if you're lucky, and the usual plains game. It's genuinely different from daytime safaris because the park feels quieter and the spotlight creates a tunnel-vision effect that makes sightings feel more intimate. The drive usually lasts 2-3 hours. Don't expect constant action though; there will be stretches where you see very little, which is normal.
The dry season (June to October) is best because animals concentrate around water sources and the roads aren't as muddy. Evening/night drives are typically offered as add-ons to day visits or as part of a package that sometimes includes dinner at a nearby hotel afterward. Expect to pay around $150-280 per person depending on whether it's a small group, private vehicle, or includes transfers and dinner. Park fees and a ranger are always included.
Tip: Book a private vehicle if you can stretch the budget; sharing with strangers who all want different photos gets old fast. Skip the dinner add-on unless you specifically want the old-school Safari Park Hotel experience; it's touristy and the food is average. Focus on the drive itself.
