Paracas & Huacachina Full-Day Trip from Lima

This is a long but doable 14–16 hour day that leaves Lima around 4–5 a.m. First stop is Paracas for a 2-hour boat ride to the Ballestas Islands where you’ll see sea lions, penguins, and birds up close—no landing, just circling the rocks. Then you drive to Huacachina oasis for an hour or two of dune buggy rides and sandboarding on the giant dunes. Most tours also include a quick winery stop with a basic lunch and pisco tasting. Expect a lot of driving, one decent meal, and dusty clothes by the end. It’s touristy but the desert landscape and adrenaline on the dunes make it worthwhile if you only have one extra day from Lima.

Best time is May–October (dry season) when the sea is calmer and you’re less likely to get seasick or rained out. December–March can be hotter and bumpier on the water. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person depending on group size, inclusions, and whether they add sunset drinks or a smaller boat. Private tours sit at the higher end.

Tip: choose the version with the later Huacachina slot if you want golden light for photos and fewer crowds on the dunes; skip the winery lunch if you’re short on time or picky about food—grab something quick in Ica instead. Bring a light jacket for the morning boat, sunscreen, and a scarf for the sand. If you get motion sickness, take something before the boat ride.
