Paragliding in Bogota: What to Know

Expect a surprisingly smooth and scenic flight rather than an adrenaline rush. Launches happen on hills about 30-45 minutes from the city. You'll get a quick briefing, get clipped into a tandem harness with an experienced pilot, run a few steps off a grassy slope, then float for 15-25 minutes over green ridges and farmland with the city skyline visible in the distance on clear days. It's peaceful more than thrilling, though thermals can give a few gentle bumps. Most people land smiling and a bit surprised at how easy it felt.

The dry season from December to March offers the most reliable weather with calmer winds and better visibility. Avoid the heavy April-May and October-November rains if you can. Expect to pay around $150-280 USD for a standard tandem flight including transport from Bogota; longer packages with photos or video push toward the higher end. Private transfers and premium equipment add more.

Pick a morning slot when winds are typically steadier and skip trying to do this as a last-minute afternoon add-on. Bring a light jacket; it gets cooler once you're up. If your pilot seems rushed or the gear looks worn, walk away and try another day or operator. The experience is worth it when conditions are right, but it's still weather-dependent mountain flying.
