Parasailing in Honolulu: What You Need to Know

Expect a surprisingly calm, smooth ride once you're up. After a quick boat ride from the harbor, they harness you in, the boat accelerates, and you float upward to 800–1,200 feet with almost no sensation of speed. The view of Diamond Head, the entire Waikiki coastline, and the deep blue water is excellent on a clear day. The actual flight lasts 8–12 minutes. It's not thrilling like a roller coaster; it's more peaceful and scenic. Most people smile the whole time. Boats typically carry 6–10 passengers and rotate turns, so plan on 60–90 minutes total.

The best time is April through October when the trade winds are steadier and seas are calmer. Morning trips usually have the smoothest conditions. Expect to pay around $90–$160 per person depending on whether you choose the standard 800-foot flight or the higher “extreme” altitude and whether you add photos or a tandem flight with a friend. Book a few days ahead in summer.

Pick the middle or highest altitude option; the lowest “intro” flight stays too close to the boat and isn't worth it. Skip the overpriced onboard photos if you're carrying your own waterproof camera or phone in a dry pouch. Don't bother going on a windy, choppy day; you'll just get bounced around and spend most of the trip feeling queasy instead of enjoying the view.
