Expect a long day. Most tours pick you up from your Phuket hotel around 7-8am, drive 1.5 hours to the pier, then take a big boat out into the bay. The highlight is paddling a canoe or kayak through narrow sea caves into hidden lagoons inside the limestone karsts. It’s atmospheric and quiet inside the caves, but the lagoons can get crowded with other groups. You’ll also stop at James Bond Island and usually one other spot for swimming or lunch on the boat. The whole thing wraps up back in Phuket between 6 and 8pm. It’s a full day on the water with a lot of travel time.
Best time to go is December to March when the sea is calmest and rain is rare. Avoid the shoulder months of April–May and September–October if you get seasick easily. Expect to pay around $70–$130 per person depending on whether you choose a standard group tour or a smaller, more comfortable one with better food and fewer people. Private options start higher.
Tip: Choose the early-morning or twilight kayak tour if it’s offered — fewer boats in the caves and better light. Skip the cheapest mass tours if you can stretch the budget; the experience is noticeably better with smaller groups and decent paddling equipment. Bring water shoes, reef-safe sunscreen, and a dry bag for your phone.
