Playa Blanca Beach Tour from Cartagena: Worth It?

Playa Blanca is a long stretch of white sand and clear water on Baru Island, about 45–60 minutes by speedboat from Cartagena. Most tours combine it with a stop at the Rosario Islands for snorkeling (decent reefs, lots of fish) and sometimes a mangrove tour. Expect a full-day trip: early departure, a couple of water stops, several hours on the beach, lunch, and return in the late afternoon. The beach itself is pretty but gets busy with both tour groups and locals. Water is warm and calm, though it can be crowded near the main pier area.

Best time to go is December to mid-March when seas are calmer and rain is minimal. June–November brings more chance of rough water and afternoon showers. Expect to pay around $60–$110 per person depending on whether you choose a small-group tour, catamaran, or semi-private option. Private boats for 4+ people usually land at the higher end but feel less rushed.

Pick the version that includes proper snorkeling time at Rosario Islands and avoids the big party catamarans if you want a relaxed day. Skip the add-on “aquarium visit” — it’s basically a tired marine park and not worth the time. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, cash for beach vendors, and don’t expect total solitude. It’s a solid day out of the city if you manage your expectations.
