A private waterfall tour from Liberia usually means a half-day trip to La Leona, about 30-45 minutes away by 4x4. You hike through thick jungle, cross a river a few times, and end up at a tall, powerful waterfall where you can swim in the pool below. Expect slippery rocks, mud, and decent physical effort — it’s not a paved stroll. The private aspect means you go at your own pace with just your guide, no big groups. It feels remote and quiet once you’re in the forest, though the trail itself sees some traffic.
The dry season (December to April) is easiest and safest for the hike; trails are less slippery and river crossings are lower. June to October brings more water volume and dramatic falls but also heavy rain, deeper water, and leeches. Expect to pay around $180–280 per person for a true private tour with transport, guide, and usually fruit or a simple lunch. Cheaper group tours exist but lose the flexibility and solitude.
Pick the full river hike version if you’re reasonably fit — the waterfall feels more earned. Skip anything that promises “secret” or “exclusive” falls; La Leona is the main one and that’s fine. Bring water shoes with good grip, quick-dry clothes, and bug spray. A strong guide makes a big difference on slippery sections and river navigation, so don’t choose purely on price.
