Expect a mix of easy dirt tracks, some proper mud, short steep sections and plenty of sugar cane fields. Most rides last 1–2 hours and feel more like an adventure excursion than a serious off-road challenge. You’ll get dusty, possibly wet, and you’ll smile a lot. The scenery is decent — ocean views on the east and south coasts, waterfalls and greenery inland — but it’s not empty wilderness; you’ll pass villages and farms. Guides keep groups together, give basic riding instructions, and usually stop for photos at the best spots.
Best time is the dry season from May to November. You’ll have far less chance of getting stuck in mud or riding in pouring rain. December–April can still be done but expect afternoon showers and slick trails. Expect to pay around $80–$160 per person depending on whether it’s a short shared ride or a longer private excursion that includes transfers and other activities. Longer east or south coast combos with lunch push toward the higher end.
Pick a morning departure so you ride in cooler air and avoid the worst heat. Skip the big all-day packages that bundle quad biking with zip-lining and bridges unless you really want the whole adventure-park experience; the biking itself is the best part and often feels rushed when it’s just one stop on a checklist. Wear closed shoes, long trousers and bring a buff or bandana for the dust.
