Akerselva river walks take you along the old industrial corridor that has been turned into a pleasant green corridor cutting through the city. Expect a relaxed 2–3 hour stroll (or sometimes a gentle paddle) past waterfalls, converted factories, street art, and parks. The route feels surprisingly calm for being so central. Guides usually cover the river’s shift from polluted 19th-century industrial spine to today’s recreational “green lung.” It’s an easy walk with some mild hills; the paddling versions are suitable for beginners but can get chilly if the water is cold.
Best time is late May to early September. June and early July give you long daylight and the nicest temperatures; August can be quieter after schools restart. Avoid November–March unless you specifically want a snowy, almost empty experience. Expect to pay around €35–70 per person depending on whether you choose a simple guided walk, a themed history tour, or a kayak/packraft paddle. Private options sit at the higher end.
Pick the standard guided walking tour if you want good stories without effort. Skip the “luxury” versions with wine and snacks unless you really want the extras; they rarely justify the markup. Bring good walking shoes and a light rain jacket – the weather changes fast even in summer.
