A sailing cruise out of Nadi usually means a day trip or overnight on a catamaran or monohull heading to the nearby Mamanuca or Yasawa islands. Expect 4–8 hours of sailing with stops for snorkeling in clear water, basic lunch (often grilled fish, rice, and fruit), and a lot of time sitting on deck. The ride can be breezy and wet if the trade winds are up; some boats have stabilizers, others don’t. You’ll see beautiful water and a few reefs, but don’t expect total solitude—most trips carry 10–30 people. Longer multi-day cruises give you more islands and quieter anchorages but eat into your Fiji schedule quickly.
The dry season from May to October brings steadier winds and less rain, making it the best time; November to April is cheaper but hotter, wetter, and more likely to have canceled sailings. Expect to pay around $90–$180 per person for a day sail including lunch and snorkel gear. Multi-day trips jump to $350–$650 for two nights. Book a smaller-group boat if you want decent snorkeling time; larger party boats prioritize drinking and music over reef visits.
Tip: Pick a tour that visits a quieter reef or sandbar instead of the over-visited “island” stops with loud speakers. Skip the super-cheap options that pack 50 people and spend most of the day motoring.
