Scuba Diving in Nadi: What to Know

Nadi itself sits on the dry side of Viti Levu, so most dives happen on day trips to the nearby islands and reefs. Expect 30–90 minutes by boat each way, warm 24–28 °C water, and sites that are easy to moderate – lots of soft corals, reef fish, occasional rays and the odd small shark. Visibility is usually 15–25 m but can drop after rain. The experience is relaxed rather than dramatic walls or big-pelagic action; it’s a solid introduction to Fijian diving rather than a bucket-list highlight.

The best time is the dry season from May to October when seas are calmer and visibility is more reliable. November to April brings warmer water but higher chance of wind, rain and occasional poor viz. Expect to pay around US$120–190 for a two-tank boat dive including gear and lunch; discover scuba or snorkel trips run cheaper. Add-ons like nitrox or extra tanks push the upper end.

Pick a solid operator that supplies recent gear and limits group sizes – the difference in comfort and safety is noticeable. Skip the cheapest harbour-front touts; they often cut corners on maintenance and briefings. If you’re short on time, combine a morning dive with an afternoon at a beach rather than trying to cram three tanks in one day.
