This is one of the most popular half-day activities in San Francisco for a reason. You pedal across the Golden Gate Bridge, descend into Sausalito, spend an hour or two wandering the waterfront town, then usually ferry back to the city. The ride itself is about 8–10 miles with one real climb on the Marin side; the bridge crossing can be windy and crowded with tourists and commuters. Expect nice views, decent exercise, and a relaxed lunch or ice cream stop in Sausalito. It’s scenic but not a wilderness ride—think well-paved paths and plenty of other cyclists.
Best time is late spring through early fall (May–October). Summer is busiest and often foggy in the mornings; September and October usually deliver clearer skies and warmer temperatures. Expect to pay around $60–$110 per person depending on whether you go self-guided, guided, or with an e-bike. E-bikes make the hills trivial and are worth it if you’re not a regular rider.
Tip: Book the version that includes the ferry ticket back so you don’t have to ride the bridge twice. Skip the full-day tours that add extra miles through Marin Headlands unless you really want more saddle time—most people are happiest with the shorter bridge-to-Sausalito option followed by a ferry ride home.
