Expect warm, clear water with 30m+ visibility on good days, healthy reefs, and plenty of marine life from reef sharks and eagle rays to napoleon wrasse and the occasional manta. Most diving is drift diving from liveaboards or day boats; sites are generally easy with mild currents, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced divers. Liveaboards let you reach remote atolls with stronger drift and bigger pelagics, while resort-based diving keeps things relaxed with house reefs you can access from the beach.
Best time is December to April when seas are calmer and visibility is typically at its peak. June to November brings cheaper prices and fewer crowds but also more rain, stronger currents, and reduced visibility. Expect to pay around $120–$180 for a two-dive day trip from a resort, or $2,800–$4,500 for a 7-night liveaboard package including meals, dives, and transfers. Equipment rental is usually extra.
Pick a liveaboard if you want variety and remote sites; skip the cheapest operators that cut corners on safety briefings and group sizes. Always check recent diver reviews for current reef health and nitrox availability if you’re certified. Bring your own mask for comfort and consider a rash guard for sun protection on the surface.
