A day trip to Segovia gives you a solid dose of Roman, medieval, and Renaissance history in one compact package. The star attractions are the towering 1st-century aqueduct, the fairy-tale Alcázar that supposedly inspired Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle, and the grand cathedral. Expect a mix of guided walking and free time; most visits last 4–6 hours on the ground. The town is hilly and cobbled, so wear comfortable shoes. It’s popular but rarely feels overwhelming once you step away from the main monuments. In summer it gets hot and crowded; spring and autumn are noticeably more pleasant.
Expect to pay around €60–€110 per person from Madrid, covering transport, a guide, and entrance fees. Trains are cheaper and more flexible if you go independently. The best single tip: skip the overpriced tourist restaurants right next to the aqueduct and walk five minutes into the old town for much better roast lamb or local sausages. Also, if your interest in cathedrals is only moderate, skip the interior and spend the time wandering the atmospheric back streets instead – that’s where Segovia feels like a real Spanish town rather than a checklist.
