SkyJump is a controlled base jump from the Sky Tower, 192m up. You step off a platform, freefall for about 3 seconds then the wire slows you to a smooth landing at around 85-95 km/h. The whole drop takes roughly 10-11 seconds. It's not a bungee — more like a fast, guided parachute descent. Expect strong wind noise, a serious adrenaline spike, and incredible 360° views of the harbour, islands and city if the weather is clear. The full experience including briefing, gearing up and tower access takes about 45 minutes. Staff are professional and the safety record is solid.
Best time is summer (Dec–Feb) for longest daylight and best chance of clear visibility, though shoulder months (Oct–Nov, Mar–Apr) are often less crowded. Expect to pay around NZ$250–350 for the jump including tower entry; adding the SkyWalk adds another $50–80. Book ahead in peak season.
Tip: do the jump only — the SkyWalk is a slow outdoor ledge shuffle that feels anticlimactic after the jump and isn't worth the extra time or money. If you're scared of heights but still want the view, just buy tower tickets and skip both activities.
