Snorkeling Excursion in Nassau: What to Know

Most Nassau snorkeling excursions are half-day boat trips that take you to shallow reefs just offshore. Expect 45-90 minutes in the water, guided, with gear provided. The reefs are decent but not pristine Caribbean; you’ll see parrotfish, sergeant majors, small rays, and occasional turtles if you’re lucky. The boat ride itself is often the biggest variable—some are calm and spacious, others crowded with loud music and a floating bar. Water is usually clear enough for decent visibility once you get away from the harbor, though it can get stirred up after rain or high winds.

Best time is December through April when the weather is driest and seas are calmer. Summer and early fall bring warmer water but higher chance of afternoon squalls and rougher rides. Expect to pay around $65–$110 per person for a standard group trip that includes pickup from downtown hotels or the cruise port. Private charters or longer outings with multiple stops run $200–$450 depending on group size.

Pick a smaller boat (under 20 people) that visits two sites instead of the big party catamarans if you actually want to see fish. Skip the ones that combine snorkeling with “private beach time” on a developed sandbar unless you just want a boozy day—those stops are usually crowded and the snorkeling is secondary.
