The Sphinx sits right next to the Pyramids at Giza, so most people visit them together. Expect a busy, sun-baked site with crowds, persistent vendors, and a lot of tour buses. The Sphinx itself is smaller than many photos suggest (about 20m tall) and you can't get close to it anymore; you'll view it from a platform with the Pyramid of Khafre behind it. The surrounding complex includes the Valley Temple and a short walk around the base of the Great Pyramid. It's impressive in scale but feels quite touristy. Give it 2-3 hours unless you're doing a longer camel or horse ride in the desert behind the pyramids.
Best time is winter (November-February) when it's cooler and drier. Avoid summer if you hate 40°C heat. Expect to pay around $60-120 for a half-day guided trip from central Cairo including transport and entry; private tours with pickup push toward the higher end while basic group tickets sit at the lower. Entry to the plateau is separate from any camel rides or extras.
Pick a morning slot to beat the worst crowds and harsh afternoon light. Skip the souvenir shops and overpriced camel photos near the entrance; the touts are relentless. If your time is short, combine it with the Egyptian Museum in one full day rather than stretching it into a multi-day package.
