The Summit Zoo is a modest wildlife park located just outside Panama City near the Canal. Expect a relaxed, low-key experience rather than a world-class zoo. Animals are housed in outdoor enclosures and cages spread across a botanical garden setting. You’ll see jaguars, monkeys, tapirs, various birds, and a few reptiles. It’s small enough to visit in 1–2 hours at a comfortable pace. The grounds are peaceful and shaded, but some enclosures feel dated and the animal collection is limited. It works well as a half-day outing combined with a Canal visit or a drive through Soberanía National Park.
Best time to visit is the dry season (December to April) when rains won’t cut your walk short. Go early morning to avoid midday heat and see more active animals. Expect to pay around $8–12 per adult; seniors and locals get significant discounts so ask. One honest tip: focus on the big cats and monkey area – they’re the most interesting. Skip the reptile house if you’re short on time or energy; it’s underwhelming. Bring water, insect repellent, and binoculars if you have them. It’s not a must-see, but decent value if you want an easy nature break without a long drive.
