Sunset Catamaran in Aruba: Worth It?

A sunset catamaran trip in Aruba gives you two to three hours of smooth sailing along the western coast as the sun drops. Expect decent open-bar drinks, decent appetizers like cheese platters and ceviche, loud music (sometimes live), and a mixed crowd of couples and groups. The boat stays fairly stable even in choppy water, but you'll feel the motion if you're prone to seasickness. The real draw is watching the sky turn orange over the coastline and getting in the water for a quick snorkel or swim stop before or after sunset depending on the departure time.

Best time is January through August when the seas are calmer and you have the highest chance of clear skies. Avoid September to December if you hate rough water or rain chances. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person depending on whether you choose the basic sail or one with better food and smaller group size. Private charters run significantly higher.

Tip: Pick a smaller catamaran (under 50 people) if you want space to actually relax instead of fighting for rail space; the big party boats get crowded and loud fast. Skip the add-on photos unless you really want the cheesy package — the crew snaps decent shots but they're overpriced. Bring a light jacket; it gets chilly once the sun is down even in the Caribbean.
