The building itself is a late-19th-century landmark near the main station, easy to reach on foot or by tram. It's not flashy or interactive like some modern museums; it's traditional, thorough, and occasionally dry. Most visitors spend 90 minutes to two and a half hours here. The special exhibitions can be excellent and are usually the reason locals return.

Best time to visit is spring or fall when crowds are thinner and Zurich weather is pleasant for walking between sights. Summer gets busier with tour groups.
