TeamLab Immersive Tokyo: Worth It?

TeamLab offers two main immersive digital art experiences in Tokyo: Planets and Borderless. Planets is more physical—you walk barefoot through knee-deep water, climb hills of light, and wade in flower-filled ponds while digital projections react to your movement. Borderless is a massive maze of rooms with mirrored infinity effects, floating orbs, and constantly shifting artworks. Both are genuinely impressive and photogenic, but they get crowded. Expect to spend 60–90 minutes inside. The experience feels like stepping into a living video game mixed with contemporary art; it’s sensory and meditative if you go at the right time, chaotic and selfie-heavy if you don’t.

Best time is weekday mornings right after opening or late afternoon. Avoid weekends and Japanese holidays completely. Late autumn through early spring tends to be slightly less packed. Expect to pay around $35–55 per person depending on which one you choose and whether you buy timed tickets in advance. Planets usually costs a bit more.

Honest tip: Pick Planets if you want something truly memorable and are okay getting your feet wet. Skip the add-on “tea house” experience—it’s overpriced and not that special. Book the earliest possible slot you can stand to avoid crowds that kill the atmosphere.
