Valle Nevado is the biggest ski resort in South America and sits only about an hour from Santiago. Don’t expect Swiss-level infrastructure or endless groomed runs; it’s a high-altitude Andean resort with reliable snow, decent off-piste skiing, and a functional but somewhat dated base village. The skiing is genuinely good for intermediates and above, especially on powder days, but the lifts are a mix of old and new, crowds can build on weekends, and the wind can be brutal. The views across the Andes are spectacular on clear days.

Best time is mid-July to mid-September, with August usually offering the most consistent snow and fewer Chilean holiday crowds. Expect to pay around $180–280 per person for a full-day trip from Santiago that includes transport, lift ticket, and basic rental gear. Add food and extras and you’re looking at $220–350 total. Private transfers or multi-day packages push the upper end higher.

Honest tips: Book the earliest departure you can tolerate; the road gets slow and the parking lots fill up.
