White Water Rafting in Liberia: What to Know

Expect warm water, Class III-IV rapids that are fun but not terrifying, and jungle scenery sliding past as you paddle. Most trips on rivers like the Tenorio run 2–3 hours on the water with a mix of bouncy drops, calm sections for swimming, and the occasional splash fight. The experience is more adventure outing than hardcore expedition – guides handle the big moves while you get a solid workout and some laughs. Transportation from Liberia hotels is usually included, along with basic safety gear, lunch, and fruit.

Best time is the rainy season (May–November) when water levels are higher and the river feels more alive; December–April is lower and gentler, better for first-timers or families. Expect to pay around $85–$130 per person for a full-day trip including transport and lunch. Private tours or add-ons push the upper end.

Pick the Tenorio River run if you want solid rapids and decent scenery; skip tubing at waterfalls unless you just want a lazy float with a crowd. Bring quick-dry clothes, waterproof shoes or old sneakers, and a change of clothes for the ride home – the van seats get wet fast.
