Expect a compact, walk-through zoo located right in the city at Darling Harbour. It's focused entirely on Australian animals in reasonably good enclosures: koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, Tasmanian devils, reptiles, and a decent saltwater crocodile. The experience is more "see and touch" than wild safari. You can feed kangaroos, hold a koala for photos (extra fee), and walk through a few immersive areas like a rainforest or billabong section. Most people spend 1.5–2.5 hours here. It's clean, well-signed, and easy to combine with other harbour attractions, but it feels more like a polished tourist attraction than a true wildlife park.

Best time is spring (Sep–Nov) or autumn (Mar–May) when the weather is mild and animals are active. Avoid peak summer weekends if you dislike crowds and heat. Expect to pay around $45–65 for a standard adult ticket; packages with photos or animal encounters push it to $80–110. Guided sunrise tours cost more but get you in before the general public.

Smart tip: buy the basic ticket and add the kangaroo feeding and koala photo if those matter to you — they're the highlights. Skip the pricey behind-the-scenes tours unless you're a big fan; the standard paths already give you close views. Go early in the day when animals are more lively and the place isn't packed.
