Is the Willis Tower Skydeck Worth It?

The Skydeck sits on the 103rd floor of Willis Tower and gives you 360-degree views stretching up to 50 miles on clear days—sometimes across four states. The main draw is The Ledge: five glass boxes that jut out from the building so you can look straight down 1,353 feet to the street below. Expect a fair bit of waiting in line for security and elevators, then a quick visit to the observation area. It’s genuinely impressive on a clear day, but the space itself feels crowded and commercial. Most people spend 30-45 minutes total once they reach the top.

Summer is peak season with long lines and heat; late spring or early fall offers the best balance of decent weather and fewer crowds. Go on a weekday morning if you can. Expect to pay around $30–45 per adult for a standard timed ticket; add $10–20 if you want to skip the regular line. Families with kids under 3 usually get free entry.

Pick a clear day or skip it entirely—cloudy weather turns this into an expensive gray box. The glass ledges are the one part worth doing; everything else (souvenir photos, overpriced snacks) you can safely ignore. If heights make you nervous, the regular indoor windows still give you the view without stepping onto the transparent floor.
