Akihabara Electric Town is a 1 km² area near JR Akihabara Station originally densely packed with 1,000 electronics stores that has transformed into a worldwide pop culture destination. Visitors browse specialty shops along Chuo-dori Street and back alleyways selling computers, anime, manga, games, figures, retro games, and computer parts. On Sundays, the area closes to vehicle traffic and becomes a pedestrian paradise open from 13:00-18:00 (April-September) or 13:00-17:00 (October-March).
