Broadway is a major thoroughfare running through downtown Nashville from 21st Avenue South to First Avenue, connecting the Gulch and Music Row with the Cumberland River waterfront. The four-block stretch of Lower Broadway, known as Honky Tonk Highway, features live music venues and honky tonks where artists perform throughout the day and evening, with the area's music scene dating back to the 1930s when Jimmy Rodgers and other performers drew crowds to the historic commercial buildings and bars lining the street.
