The Castle of Good Hope is a pentagonal bastion fort built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company, making it the oldest existing colonial building in South Africa and now considered the best-preserved 17th-century architectural structure in the world. Visitors explore the fortress's original chambers including a church, bakery, workshops, and cells, view the De Kat Balcony and Kings of the Castle statues, and tour the Castle Military Museum housed within its walls.
