Chimney Rock State Park features the Hickory Nut Falls Trail, a 1.4-mile moderate hike leading to one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River at 404 feet. Visitors hike through a mature deciduous forest to view the spectacular waterfall at its base, which was featured in the film "The Last of the Mohicans," and can observe rare plants and amphibians in the unique ecosystem surrounding the falls.
