Diamond Head (Lē'ahi) is a 475-acre state monument featuring a broad, saucer-shaped volcanic crater formed 300,000 years ago, prominently located near Waikiki's eastern coastline. Visitors hike a steep 0.8-mile trail built in 1908 that ascends 560 feet through the crater interior, passing through a 225-foot lighted tunnel to reach the summit Fire Control Station, where they encounter military bunkers, a 1917 navigational lighthouse, and panoramic views of the shoreline from Koko Head to Wai'anae.
